WHAT IS BRAVES 2 COLLEGE?

Braves 2 College (B2C) has been established as a 501c3 endowment to create scholarships for high school students who are residents of Union County, Kentucky. The intention of B2C is to award scholarships to UCHS graduates who meet the criteria determined by the B2C Board of Directors. This aid is to be used as a “last dollar” benefit for the participant, this being understood to mean that all other benefits to which an eligible applicant is or may be entitled shall be exhausted before any B2C scholarship program funds are allocated to the participant. These funds will be used to meet educational costs that available KEES money, other scholarships, and grants do not cover.

If a student qualifies for early college through Henderson Community College (HCC) in their junior or senior year at UCHS and also qualifies under B2C criteria of GPA, attendance and non-disciplinary issues, the student would be eligible for up to $500 per semester to be used for tuition at HCC. These dollars will be counted as part of the $4,000 maximum allowed per qualified student under B2C.

BRAVES 2 COLLEGE WORKS LIKE THIS

Union County Fiscal Court, businesses, public school system, and Henderson Community College have formed a partnership with the citizens of Union County to encourage all UCHS students to pursue a post-secondary education. Beginning with the class of 2017, all Union County graduates who meet B2C criteria will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 per year for four consecutive years to assist with college costs. B2C will also assist with one college cost associated with dual credit classes taken during the high school years, up to $300.

All eighth grade students in the Union County Public School System will be enrolled automatically unless opted out by a parent or guardian. No further paperwork will be required of the student to enter the program, as the school system will monitor criteria requirements and successful students will automatically be awarded scholarship funds.
